FACCE-JPI working on 2018–2020 actions and perspectives

Working Group for GPC
Following the Evaluation of Joint Programming to Address Grand Societal Challenges report, released by the Expert Group set by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, the High Level Group on Joint Programming (GPC) has set up a working group to look at the long-term strategy for JPIs.

There is a need for renewed commitment from Members States for JPIs. The GPC Working Group, working together with JPIs, will serve to feed into the Council of Ministers and the European Commission to inform decisions on the future of Joint Programming.

FACCE-JPI has set up an internal working group on 2018–2020 actions with the objective to respond to the GPC’s request for each JPI to complete a JPI strategy 2018-2020 by November 2016, outlining planned and potential activities. The GPC is also requesting that the JPIs announce their plans for self-sustainability by May 2017. The latter ties in with the on-going work by the FACCE-JPI secretariat on self-sustainability, through a dedicated work package in the FACCE-Evolve CSA.

New action in sight

In addition, FACCE-JPI, along with JPIs Oceans and HDHL, have met with the EC to discuss the potential for joint activities, following on from the joint workshops of 2016 and subsequent paper. The three JPIs have agreed to work together on a future action.

A number of other actions have been proposed by the internal working group for the period of 2018-2020. These are being considered by the FACCE-JPI Governing Board before responding to the GPC Working Group.
